The next edition of the continental competition will feature teams from CONMEBOL and CONCACAF, with the venues for their first and last matches known.
FIFA’s requirement that the FIFA calendar America Cup the adaptation to that of the Eurocup forced CONMEBOL to organize a continental competition in 2020 and postpone the edition already planned for 2023 by a year. WHERE IT IS PLAYED
In September 2018, the then president of the Ecuadorian Football Federation, Carlos Villacís, assured that his country would be in charge of organizing the next edition of the tournament. However, since then, the FEF authorities have changed and prior to the draw for the 2020 edition, Alejandro Domínguez clarified that Ecuador has “submitted only one application” and that the possibility of maintaining the two-headquarters system in the future is being studied.

Previously, an official statement from the South American Football Confederation dated January 27, 2023 stated:
- CONMEBOL and Concacaf today announced the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement to strengthen and develop football in both regions. The agreement includes women’s and men’s national team competitions and a new club tournament.

The CONMEBOL Copa América 2024 will be played in the United States in the summer of 2024 and will include the 10 CONMEBOL teams and the top six Concacaf teams as guests. This traditional CONMEBOL tournament is co-organized by both confederations.

Concacaf nations will have the opportunity to qualify for this competition through the 2023/24 Concacaf Nations League.

For CONMEBOL, this agreement will support the men’s national teams in their preparation for the next World Cup through an expanded Copa América with six elite Concacaf teams, hosted in the region that will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In turn, Concacaf will be able to provide more high-quality competition to its men’s national teams over the next two years, including the completion of the 2022/23 Concacaf Nations League, the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup, the 2023/24 Concacaf Nations League.

For the women’s national teams, Concacaf has invited the top four CONMEBOL women’s national teams to participate in the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup. The first edition of this tournament will be played in the United States. The 12-team competition is an important part of Concacaf’s new competition calendar for the women’s national team.

The two Concacaf teams participating in the 2024 Summer Olympics (United States and Jamaica or Canada) will receive direct entry into the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup. The remaining six Concacaf teams will be determined through the 2023 Concacaf W Qualifier.

The four invited CONMEBOL teams that will participate have been determined based on the results of the 2022 Copa América Femenina: Brazil (champion), Colombia (second), Argentina (third place) and Paraguay (fourth place).

CONMEBOL and Concacaf will also organize a centralized “final four” style club competition in which the best clubs from the respective confederations will participate. The four participating teams (two from each confederation) will qualify through the existing CONMEBOL and Concacaf club competitions and the two confederations will work towards the first edition of this tournament to be played in 2024.

Working closely with Conmebol, we will offer elite competitions that will provide more opportunities for our federations and that we know fans will want to see. “We will work together to ensure football continues to flourish in both regions.”
WHEN WILL IT BE DISPUTED
365 days before the scheduled kick-off date, CONMEBOL announced on social networks that it will be played June 20 to July 14, once the seasons of the world’s major leagues end.
And on November 20, seven months before the start, the organization confirmed the locations for the opening match and the grand finale: the competition starts at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta and ends at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
