Serbia qualified for the European Championship for the first time since the dissolution of Yugoslavia.

In the eighth round match of the Euro 2024 Qualifying Tournament Group G, the Serbian team drew with the Bulgarian national team on its home field. The match, played in Leskovac at the Dubocić city stadium with the participation of 7,325 spectators, ended in a productive draw with a score of 2:2.

Serbian football players last competed in the continental championship in 2000 as part of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which also includes Serbia and Montenegro. Serbs competed at the World Championships as part of the Serbia-Montenegro national team in 2006, as well as in 2010, 2018 and 2022.

In the Serbia-Bulgaria match, Werder Bremen’s 28-year-old defender Milos Veljkovic opened the scoring in the 17th minute.59.
