Former striker of the Russian national team and head coach of Ivanovo Tekstilshchik, Igor Kolyvanov, shared his expectations from the friendly match to be played between the Russian national team and the Cuban national team. In a conversation with socialbites.ca, he admitted that he was not interested in this confrontation.
“Nobody knows Cuba, I don’t even know what to expect. I expect more goals from our team. I don’t know what our mood will be like, it is very difficult to prepare against such teams. Maybe they will try different options, sketches, other plans – I don’t know what Karpin will come up with. It’s clear that we need to beat Cuba and try to score as many goals as possible. I want a beautiful and combination game with bright moments. But Cuba is not a rival for us; Believe me, this match is not even interesting,” said Kolyvanov.
Russian and Cuban national teams will face each other in Volgograd on November 20. The meeting will start at 19.30 Moscow time. This will be the national team’s fifth friendly match in 2023.
In the spring of 2022, the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) decided to suspend the participation of the Russian national team and all Russian clubs in all competitions controlled by these organizations. Starting from spring 2022, Russian clubs and the national team will play only friendly matches.
