The bill on amateur sports, adopted by the State Duma in the first reading, is currently taking its final form and may be submitted for reconsideration in a few weeks. Dmitry Svishchev, chairman of the Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports, told socialbites.ca.
“The bill is currently being finalized because there are very serious statements coming from the government. Statements of a different nature that are quite serious. We are in the finalization and update phase. We have some deadlines that have already expired. So we are actually experiencing a time crunch right now. But these are the government’s comments, we must take them into consideration in the second and third reading. I think we need a few more weeks. This bill is under the leadership of the State Duma, so we are waiting for comments and submitting them,” Svishchev explained.
The bill on amateur sports was first adopted in the State Duma on October 10. The document makes changes to the “Physical Culture and Sports Law”. It clarifies the concepts of “mass sports” and “corporate sports” and also creates new ones such as “amateur sports” and “amateur sports league”.
MPs believe that the adoption of the bill will create incentives for the development of mass sports.
Formerly in the State Duma in the name Russian athletes must wait to change their citizenship.
