Three-time Olympic champion Irina Rodnina says she did not watch the Russian Grand Prix in figure skating “Sports Express”.
“I don’t watch the Housing Office championship. As someone who has participated in ten world championships and three Olympics, I have no interest in watching a Russian-only Grand Prix. I can also watch it for work, but I am not responsible for it,” Rodnina said.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that domestic and Belarusian athletes should not be allowed to participate in any competitions due to the political situation. For this reason, the International Skating Union (ISU) suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions. The organization was supposed to discuss the issue of accepting Russia and Belarus at the council meeting held in Lausanne on October 6-8, but did not do so.
