Honorary Coach of Russia Alexander Zhulin shared his thoughts on the hearings of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, expressing his hope that the athlete will be left behind. His words guide the way “Sports Express”.
“Yes, there is some kind of dark story here. I doubt all this will be resolved in Valieva’s direction due to the recent events unfolding. But I would really like our Kamila to stop being terrorized,” said Zhulin.
A scandal broke out around Valieva when it was announced that traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found in a doping test after Valieva won the team competition at the Beijing Olympics. Despite this, she was allowed to compete in the individual championship and finished fourth.
Valieva’s case is being reviewed by CAS. The hearing was held in September, but the court postponed the case to November for the preparation of additional documents. The final decision will be made in January 2024. If Valieva is found guilty of violating anti-doping rules, the Russian team could lose its Olympic team gold medal. The awards have not yet been awarded due to the open doping case.
On November 12, Valieva finished fourth at the Russian Grand Prix stage in Kazan.
