Ovechkin’s double gives Washington victory over the Islanders

Washington Capitals defeated the New York Islanders in the regular season match of the National Hockey League (NHL).

The match, which took place at the UBS Arena in Elmont, ended with a score of 4:1 in favor of Washington. The winning team included Alexander Ovechkin, Nick Dowd and Alexey Protas, who scored double goals. Russian defenseman Alexander Romanov scored Buffalo’s only goal.

Moscow’s Russian striker Ovechkin scored a goal in the 10th minute of the first period and opened the match with an assist from another Russian Moscow striker Evgeny Kuznetsov. Ovechkin also scored five seconds before the final siren. The striker broke the goalless streak that lasted for six matches.

Before facing the Islanders, Ovechkin had two goals and seven assists in 12 games of the season. Now, during his entire career in the NHL, the Russian forward has scored 826 goals. The difference with Wayne Gretzky is 68 goals. In third place is Gordie Howe, who scored 801 goals during his NHL career.

Washington won its second straight game. The Islanders suffered their fourth consecutive defeat.
