Castellón’s team is already looking for a new coach after Pacheta’s dismissal; Marcelino García Toral sounds.
A day after beating Maccabi Haifa in Cyprus (1-2) in the Europa League, Villarreal CF announced on Friday, November 10, that José Rojo Martín ‘Pacheta’ is no longer the coach of the first team. The Yellow Submarine fired the 55-year-old coach two months and five days after doing the same with Quique Setién, fired on September 5. Now Marcelino García Toral seems to be the main option to occupy the bench.
Pacheta has coached Villarreal in just 12 games since replacing Setién. He won five matches, drew three and lost four. His team scored 19 goals and conceded 15, reaching a total of 18 points out of 36 in all competitions. He took the team on the fifth day of LaLiga, a competition in which Castellón’s side were in thirteenth place in the rankings, with 12 points from 12 games played.
Why Villarreal fired Pacheta as coach and who will be his replacement
Villarreal has not explained the reasons why it fired Pacheta, and in its official statement they limited themselves to reporting that the former Valladolid coach “no longer belongs to the yellow discipline”.
“The club would like to thank him and his entire coaching staff for their work, dedication, professionalism, commitment and closeness during his stay at the club and wish him every success in his professional future,” they added in the statement.
As for Villarreal’s future coach, it has not yet been announced. The club reported that “the football director of Villarreal CF, Miguel Ángel Tena, will be in charge of the training session scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday at 11 a.m. at the José Manuel Llaneza Sports City (first 15 minutes open to the press) Later he will address the media during a press conference scheduled for 1:15 p.m. Miguel Ángel Tena will lead the first team in this Sunday’s match against Atlético de Madrid (9 p.m., Cívitas Metropolitano).
