The Ukrainian team will play against the Catalans outside Donetsk.
More than two thousand kilometers separate Donetsk from Hamburg, but it is in that German city where the Champions League match between the Ukrainian Shakhtar and FC Barcelona will be played, for the fourth day of the group stage.

Why Shakhtar Donetsk vs. Will Barcelona play the 2023/24 Champions League in Hamburg (Germany) and not in Ukraine?
Shakhtar Donetsk, Barcelona’s rival on the fourth day of group H of the 2023/24 Champions League, is a regular opponent of the Catalan club in this 21st century, but on this occasion Xavi Hernández’s team will not travel to Ukraine. Due to the war caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Shakhtar Donetsk plays its home games at the Volkspark Stadium in Hamburg, a city in Germany.
The Volksparkstadion Hamburg opened in 1953, but underwent a major renovation in 2000, when it was transformed into a stadium more suitable for football. It has hosted final tournament matches in major tournaments such as the 1974 and 2006 FIFA World Cups, as well as the 1988 UEFA European Championship.
Under its current name, it also hosted the 2010 UEFA Europa League Final, when Atlético de Madrid defeated Fulham 2–1 in extra time.
The ground, home to boxing events and concerts, is owned by Hamburg and for a time had a clock that counted how long the club had been at the top of German football. However, the clock is on since HSV suffered the only decline in 2018.
