President of the All-Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation and national team head coach Irina Viner supported Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who described the International Olympic Committee (IOC)’s statements regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as ugly. His words were quoted “Sports Express”.
“I completely agree with Sergei Lavrov’s words on this issue. The IOC now says in its defense that the clashes began during the Olympics. Another new argument: They will search for them forever,” Wiener said.
In a recent statement, the IOC said Israeli athletes cannot be discriminated against because they are not responsible for the government’s actions.
At the end of February 2022, the IOC issued an appeal to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions due to the situation in Ukraine.
The organization has not set a deadline for lifting the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). Additionally, no final decision regarding the admission of Russians to the Games has been announced.
Previous IOC leaders named Destroyers of the Olympic movement.
