Football commentator Gennady Orlov believes that Spartak Moscow would be better off choosing its head coaches from former club players. He shared his opinion with him Sports24.
“It makes sense that many people sent Yuran to Spartak. He played in this club. Whether he will be successful if appointed depends on the entire “Spartak” system. Same story with Cherchesov and Karpin. All of them are potential candidates for Spartak, they went through the school of this club. Parfenov also wants to coach there.

The team’s current coach, Guillermo Abascal, took over as head of Spartak before the start of the 2022/23 season. He extended his contract with the team with a salary increase as the season progressed. Last season, under his leadership, the red and white team came third in the Russian Championship.
On 1 November, Spartak lost at home to Krasnodar (2:3) in the sixth round match of the Russian Cup group stage. The Spanish specialist’s charges have already secured his place in the Cup play-offs from the first place in the group.
After 13 rounds in the Russian Championship, Spartak collected 20 points and ranked seventh in the rankings.
