Fabio Grosso arrived at the Ligue 1 match against Marseille with a facial injury after fans threw stones at the bus.
The local fans gave their rivals a hostile welcome to the Stade Velodrome, throwing projectiles at the bus carrying the players and members of the coaching staff traveling to the stadium. Such behavior was always asking for trouble, and so it turned out.
The Lyon bus eventually stopped with broken windows. Those inside could not escape the attack the ultras made on them, so it was not surprising that they suffered injuries along the way.
Grosso was left bleeding from a three-centimetre gash on his face after he was hit by shards of glass from brick-broken windows.
Former Italy international Grosso was immediately taken for medical attention, leaving him with protection over his eye and a bandage around his head. It was later decided to suspend the match due to the incidents that preceded it.
