Former head coach of the Russian national team Boris Ignatiev spoke about his salary as coach of the national team. His words are quoted “Sports Express”.
“Is it true that I get $500 a month? Such a time… And this was not the most important and most offensive thing for me. Then they loved the profession. I never went to work somewhere thinking “you will give me this salary”.
I took as much as they gave me. This was the rate in the Federation. This may be wrong, but it was the right time,” Ignatiev said.
Ignatiev led the Russian national team from 1996 to 1998.
In the spring of 2022, the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) decided to suspend the participation of the Russian national team and all Russian clubs in all competitions controlled by these organizations. From spring 2022, Russian clubs and the national team will play only friendly matches.
Russian clubs other than Zenit did not play a single match in European cups in 2022. The Russian national team, led by Valery Karpin, played six friendly matches in 2023.
