Russian Columbus Blue Jackets forward Dmitry Voronkov got into a fight with Montreal Canadiens’ tough guy Arber Dzhekaj during a National Hockey League (NHL) regular season game.

The episode occurred in the first period. The referee intervened in the episode and both sparring participants were expelled from the game for five minutes. For Voronkov, this game was his NHL debut.

In the second period match between Columbus and Montreal, the score is 2:1 in favor of the Blue Jackets.

On October 24, Voronkov was called up from the American Hockey League. This decision was prompted by the injury of the Blue Jackets’ leader, Patrik Laine. The Russian managed to play four matches for Cleveland, Columbus’ farm club, and made one assist in those matches.

Voronkov was selected by the club in the fourth round of the 2019 draft. The hockey player played for Ak Bars from 2018 to 2023. He won a silver medal as a member of the Russian team at the Olympic Games in Beijing.

It is worth noting that several Russians played for Columbus; these are goalkeeper Daniil Tarasov, forwards Kirill Marchenko and Egor Chinakhov.

Formerly Canadian ice hockey player I’m amazed Alexander Ovechkin calls him a role model.
