The National Hockey League’s (NHL) regular season match between the Washington Capitals and the Toronto Maple Leafs takes place at the Capital One Arena in Washington. At the end of two periods, the score was 4:1 in favor of the guest team.

Capitals’ Russian captain Alexander Ovechkin scored the first goal of the new NHL season by scoring a goal from Toronto goalkeeper Joseph Wall in the 40th minute of the match.

Ovechkin, who played in 74 regular season games in the NHL last season, scored 42 goals and 33 assists. However, this did not help the Capitals reach the tournament’s play-offs.

The Russian now has 823 goals in his NHL career (he scored 42 last season). He is 71 goals behind Wayne Gretzky. The Canadian has 894 goals and remains first among snipers in NHL history.
