Russian-American figure skater Ilya Malinin won the short program at the Grand Prix in the USA.

According to the rental results, Malinin received 104.06 points. Kevin Aymoz from France came second (97.34), and Sun Sato from Japan came third (91.61).

In September 2022, Malinin cleanly performed the quadruple axel in the free program for the first time in history at the US International Classic tournament held on September 14 in Lake Placid (New York, USA). The figure skater is the vice world champion in single skating.

At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that domestic and Belarusian athletes should not be allowed to participate in any competitions due to the political situation. For this reason, the International Skating Union (ISU) suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions. The organization was supposed to discuss the issue of accepting Russia and Belarus at the council meeting held in Lausanne on October 6-8, but did not do so. The decision not to allow Russian skaters to participate in international competitions in the 2023/24 season was announced on October 9.
