Leo compared the current Argentina national team to Pep’s historic team that won the Sextete in 2009.
In football there are no absolute truths and everything is a matter of discussion. The different eras and styles and the scarcity of audiovisual material that allows us to see firsthand what happened on the grass until practically the 1970s can also mislead perspective when discussing the great teams and players in history. However, there are few arguments that anyone would want to deny that Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona are one of the best teams to ever jump onto a playing field to kick a ball in the hope of getting it into the opponent’s goal.
And for Lionel Messi, nothing more and nothing less, the current Argentina national team is “very close” to that Blaugrana which – for Leo there is no discussion – “is the best team in history.” A comparison that not only shows how much the captain is enjoying his time in the national team, but also puts into perspective how much what has been built by the hand of Lionel Scaloni in the Albiceleste over the past five years is worth.
But apart from the words of the Ten, is this comparison valid? To what extent can Scaloneta compete against Pep’s Barça?
