Paraguayan striker Antonio Sanabria finally addressed the controversy over his alleged spitting on Lionel Messi.
The 27-year-old forward, who plays for Torino in Serie A, released a statement via Instagram addressing the controversy over the alleged spitting on Lionel Messi during the 2026 World Cup qualifier between Paraguay and Argentina.
Sanabria was accused of spitting at Messi during the match, something the attacker categorically denies. He even suggested that he and his family have received “multiple threats” since the controversial incident.
After the match, Messi was asked about the spitting, to which the star responded to TyC Sports: “My teammates told me about it in the dressing room. It’s better to leave the subject at that. I don’t know who it was.” I don’t want to attach any importance to it either, because if he achieves that, he will start talking everywhere and making himself known.”
