Russian tennis player Anastasia Potapova posted a photo from a bathhouse in her Instagram stories (the owner of the Meta company is known as an extremist and is banned in Russia).
In the photo, the 22-year-old athlete poses with her husband, tennis player Alexander Shevchenko. Potapova wrote under the photo, “I am introducing my wife to bath traditions.”
Potapova is ranked 27th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings. Potapova is the winner of one junior Grand Slam singles tournament (Wimbledon 2016), finalist of three junior Grand Slam doubles tournaments (US Open 2015, French Open 2016, 2017), former world number one junior ranked by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
On September 26, Potapova and tennis player Shevchenko announced their engagement. The girl said their relationship had “gone from friendship” so the tennis player didn’t have to look after her. It was noted that the athletes have known each other since the age of nine.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee issued a call to international sports federations and recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions.
Russian and Belarusian tennis players compete as neutral athletes in international tournaments.
