Former president of Spartak Moscow Andrei Chervichenko called out the decision of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to cancel the admission of Russian youth teams (U-17) to the expected international tournaments. He shared his opinion with him “Match TV”.
“The circus must work, clowns must entertain people. Apparently, someone there realized that on paper this situation could somehow still exist, but in life under these conditions it could not happen. I don’t know. Or maybe someone there thought we were still in on something. There are a lot of idiots. Therefore you should not be surprised.
This decision is awaited. And the decision made earlier (on acceptance) is impossible. They threw bones as bait. But it turns out that a lot of stinky stuff like the Baltics and other Scandinavians probably outweighed common sense,” Chervichenko said.
On 26 September, the UEFA Executive Committee proposed allowing Russian youth teams to participate in tournaments with neutral status. Following this, some countries, including England and Ukraine, announced that they intended to boycott the matches played with Russian teams.
On October 10, UEFA announced that the decision on the admission of Russian youth teams from under-17 players to international competitions was canceled and this issue was removed from the agenda of the board meeting.
