Russian State Duma deputy Nikolai Valuev criticized the decision of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to cancel the admission of Russian under-17 football teams to international competitions Sports24.
“I am not surprised by UEFA’s decision. The lower half is their element. That’s why I said not to praise ourselves,” said Valuev.
In the spring of 2022, FIFA and UEFA decided to suspend the participation of the Russian national team, as well as all Russian clubs, in all competitions controlled by these organizations. The national team played only friendly matches. In October, the Russians will face Cameroon and Kenya.
UEFA President Aleksandar Čeferin announced that the Russian U-17 women’s and men’s national teams will return to international matches on 26 September. On 8 October, The Independent reported that UEFA may reconsider this decision.
The last official match played by the Russian national team was the match against Croatia in the autumn of 2021. Then the Russians lost with a score of 0:1.
