Former Spartak general manager Yuri Zavarzin believes that ambitions hinder the head coach of the red-whites, Guillermo Abascal. His words are quoted “Match TV”.

“Obviously Abascal is disappointing; He’s doing something incomprehensible with the team. Now people may be saying that he did this on purpose to get trampled. In my opinion, this is due to his youth and inexperience. His ambitions are clearly higher than what’s happening now. He wants to prove that he is the best here and now, and that doesn’t always work,” Zavarzin said.

Abaskal took over as head of Spartak before the start of the 2022/23 season. He extended his contract with the team with a salary increase as the season progressed. Last season, under his leadership, the red and white team came third in the Russian Championship.

On October 8, Spartak managed to get a draw from CSKA in the Moscow derby. The meeting ended with a score of 2:2. The goals were scored by Milan Gaich (double), Quincy Promes and Jesus Medina. The red-whites won twice in the match.
