Serbian figure skating champion Antonina Dubinina talked about the attitude towards athletes from Russia in the international arena and noted that those competing for medals were happy with their absence. His words lead the way “Championship.com”.
“But Russian athletes in general are definitely missed. There is more excitement with them. And the competition moves the sport forward, so they understand that it is better to let Russia come back as soon as possible so that others do not relax,” Dubinina said.
Dubinina is a Moscow native who has represented Serbia since the 2016/2017 season. At the Serbian national championships the figure skater won gold medals six times.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that domestic and Belarusian athletes should not be allowed to participate in any competitions due to the political situation. For this reason, the International Skating Union (ISU) suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions. The organization was supposed to discuss the issue of the admission of Russia and Belarus at the council meeting held in Lausanne on October 6-8.
