Russian forward and captain of Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin scored the first goal in the preseason games of the National Hockey League (NHL).
Washington plays against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Ovechkin made the score 2:1 in the 31st minute of the match. His assistants were Lucas Johansen and TJ Oshie.
The match is in its third period and the score is the same: 2:1.
Ovechkin, who played in 74 regular season games in the NHL last season, scored 42 goals and 33 assists. However, this did not help the Capitals reach the tournament’s play-offs. The Russian player currently has 822 goals scored in his NHL career. The difference with Wayne Gretzky is 72 goals. The Canadian has 894 goals and remains first among snipers in NHL history.
In the first game of the regular season, Washington will play against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The meeting will take place on October 14. The first match will take place at 2:30 Moscow time.
