Svetlana Zhurova, the 2006 Turin Olympic champion in speed skating and now a State Duma deputy, in a comment to socialbites.ca, described the reluctance to allow Russian athletes to participate in the Winter Youth Olympics in South Korea as an attempt by rivals to exclude Russia from the international arena. .

“Of course, it is obvious that there are those who want to remove us from being rivals. If there are no reserves, in ten years we will have no one left to perform. And they will point their fingers and say that Russia’s sports power is over, it no longer has medals. For some reason they believe this will happen. However, this is a misconception. This already happened in the Soviet Union. We have a saying: “Don’t get into trouble and don’t poke the bear with a stick.” In this case, we have just established our sports infrastructure. So much has been done that we will not give up on this path. On the contrary, we will become even more angry and the competition between us will become more serious. And this needs to be emphasized within the country,” says Zhurova.

The Russian team achieved the number of medals by winning 10 gold, 11 silver and 8 bronze medals at the Youth Olympic Games held in Lausanne, Switzerland in 2020.
