The International Football Federation (FIFA) may allow teams of Russian players under the age of 17 to participate in international tournaments under its auspices. This was reported by Weather.
FIFA is considering relaxing the ban after the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) softened its stance towards Russia at the end of September. The decision is expected to be made at the FIFA council meeting on October 4. In case of positive results, Russian teams will be able to participate in the Under-17 World Championship if they pass the qualifying tournament. The U-17 World Cup will be held in Indonesia in 2023.
In the spring of 2022, FIFA and UEFA decided to suspend the participation of the Russian national team, as well as all Russian clubs, in all competitions controlled by these organizations. Since then the teams have played only friendly matches.
On September 26, the UEFA Executive Committee allowed Russian national teams with neutral status under the age of 17 to participate in international tournaments.
