The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, spoke about the decision of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to allow Russian athletes to compete at the Paralympic Games as neutral athletes. His words are quoted RIA News.
“This is, of course, a politically motivated decision, which once again proves that the International Paralympic Committee has long turned into a platform for showdowns, elimination of strong rivals, and that its ideology has at its core the same discrimination of people based on nationality,” Zakharova said.
The IPC canceled the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC)’s membership in the organization before the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in August 2016. PKR was conditionally reassigned in March 2019.
Russian Paralympic athletes could not participate in the Paralympic Games held in Beijing this year. For Russian Olympians, the Games in Beijing were the last major international tournament.
Previously at the Russian Paralympic Committee said About the support of countries at the IPC General Assembly.
