Athletic has compiled the best players of the National Hockey League (NHL) of the 2023/2024 season, including 10 Russians.
There are a total of 125 players on the list. The publication divided all hockey players into four groups: “MVP”, “Face of the Franchise”, “All Star Team Level” and “Best Team Level”.
Russians were not included in the first group. They included: Connor McDavid (Edmonton Oilers), Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton), Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado Avalanche), Auston Matthews (Toronto Maple Leafs), Cale Makar (Colorado Avalanche), Jack Hughes (New Jersey Devils), David Pastrnak (Boston ) Bruins), Matthew Tkachuk (Florida Panthers) and Adam Fox (New York Rangers).
In the second category, Kirill Kaprizov (Minnesota Wild) and Nikita Kucherov (Tampa Bay Lightning) took part.
The third category consists of 32 players. Among them are four Russians: Artemiy Panarin (Rangers), Andrei Svechnikov (Carolina Hurricanes), Pavel Buchnevich (St. Louis Blues), Mikhail Sergachev (Tampa).
The fourth group of 64 players included four Russian hockey players: Evgeni Malkin (Pittsburgh Penguins), Valery Nichushkin (Colorado), Alexander Ovechkin (Washington Capitals) and Dmitry Orlov (Carolina).
The new NHL season starts on the night of October 11, Moscow time. On day one, the Vegas Golden Knights will face the Seattle Kraken, the Nashville Predators will face Tampa Bay, and the Chicago Blackhawks will face Pittsburgh.
The next season will feature 1,312 games in total and the NHL regular season will end on April 19, Moscow time. Vegas wins the 2023 Stanley Cup.
