Former Spartak general manager Evgeny Melezhikov criticized the team’s head coach Guillermo Abascal for the mistakes he made in squad selection. His words are quoted “Sports Express”.
“The replacement of the two vice-captains Promes and Zobnin, as well as the absence of vice-captain Selikhov and captain Dzhikia due to injury, absolutely surprises me! You always need to trust the leaders and work with them very diligently and constantly. They are the backbone of the team. They are team leaders! I don’t know who Guillermo will bet on now!” said Melezhikov.
Abaskal took over as head of Spartak before the start of the 2022/23 season. Before Russia, the expert worked in Volos, Greece, and Basel, Switzerland. He extended his contract with the team with a salary increase as the season progressed. Last season, under his leadership, the red and white team came third in the Russian Championship.
On October 1, Spartak lost to Krylya Sovetov Samara with a score of 0:4. The red-whites lost 0:2 in the 25th minute, thanks to Yuri Gorshkov’s double. Garre and Shitov scored another goal each in the second half.
Previously Dmitry Guberniev suggestedWhen Abascal was fired.
