The preseason match between the National Hockey League (NHL) Washington Capitals and Detroit Red Wings ended at Capital One Arena in Washington. The match ended with the capital team winning 4:3.
Detroit forward Daniel Sprong opened the scoring in the fourth minute of the first period. Washington’s Swedish forward Nicklas Backstrom equalized the score in the eighth minute. She was assisted by Russian forwards Alexandra Ovechkin and Ivan Miroshnichenko. Capitals’ Tom Wilson gave his team the lead in the 13th minute. Russian Evgeny Kuznetsov made the assist. Rasmum Sandin and John Carlos scored for Washington in the third period. Miroshnichenko made another assist. Forward Robby Fabbri scored twice for Detroit.
The new season in the NHL will start on the night of October 11, Moscow time. Three games will be played on the first day: the Vegas Golden Knights will face the Seattle Kraken, Nashville will play Tampa, and the Chicago Blackhawks will face the Pittsburgh Penguins.
