Manchester United have reportedly failed to find the assault allegation against Antony before his transfer.
The Red Devils were unaware that a police report had been filed over the Brazilian’s alleged assault on a woman more than three months before he signed for Ajax for £85 million in September last year, according to The Telegraph.
The report states that Rayssa De Freitas filed the complaint with the Sao Paulo Civil Police in May 2022, where she claimed she was attacked by Antony and a woman and required hospital treatment after an argument in a car after a night of partying in Brazil .
United reportedly said they have carried out ‘due diligence’ checks on the winger but found no evidence of domestic abuse allegations or police investigations in his past.
The Telegraph also claims the club was only made aware of the police report following reporting in Brazil this month, when it was shared by the 23-year-old’s lawyers.
Antony is currently separated from Manchester while he resolves the allegations against him.
His ex-girlfriend Gabriela Cavalin claimed the Brazil international attacked multiple times between June 2022 and May 2023. He denies all allegations.
United’s due diligence checks also failed to reveal that former defender Marcos Rojo was investigated by police over an alleged bottle attack on two men in Argentina before his signing from Sporting Lisbon in 2014. The Argentinian reached an out-of-court settlement and the case was dismissed.
It also emerged that Geoff Konopka, the first coach of United’s women’s team between 1983 and 2001, was a special guest at a match at Old Trafford last year, despite being a convicted pedophile and having an active ban from the Football Association ( FA) security system.
He spent four years in prison in 2011 and was on the sex offenders register for 10 years after being found guilty of 19 offenses of gross indecency and indecent assault against girls aged 14 and 16.
