Former Russian national team player Alexander Mostovoy commented on the decision of the ethics committee of the Russian Football Union (RFU) to disqualify coach Leonid Slutsky with a one-year suspended prison sentence. Mostovoy’s words are quoted as follows: “RB Sport”.
“Slutsky rightfully received his punishment. There are people in every profession who get involved and get attached in some way. Just like how I would work as a doctor. To me, he’s just a guy who suddenly caught a star and took advantage of it. Such people appear, and then you think: “How could he refuse?” said Mostovoy.
The RFU took this decision because of Slutsky’s remarks to journalist Vitaly Borodin in a video on the “Komment.Show” YouTube channel dated August 14. The Ethics Committee declared that Slutsky’s behavior affected the reputation of FIFA, UEFA and the RFU.
After Lokomotiv’s match against Krylya Sovetov, the journalist tried to ask a question to Artem Dzyuba and received a harsh response with threats. Before that, the striker had stated that he was not interested in communicating with the press and asked to come up with questions that would deserve his attention. Slutsky defended his partner in the joint program on You-Tube and called the journalist an idiot. During the performance, Slutsky called the journalist a “19-year-old moron.”
