Russian tennis player Anastasia Guryeva, together with Romanian Mara Gae, won the US Open junior doubles by beating Japanese Sara Saito and Nanaki Sato.
The match lasted 1 hour and 19 minutes and ended with scores of 1:6, 7:5, 10:8.
It is interesting that Guryeva and Gae played two matches in one day. In the semi-finals, the Russian-Romanian duo defeated Japan’s Haya Kinoshita and Wakana Sonobe.
This is the second victory of Russian women in one day at the US Open. Moscow native Anna Danilina won the US Open mixed doubles title with Finnish representative Harri Helievaara.
The US Open men’s singles final match will start on September 10 at 23:00 Moscow time, where Daniil Medvedev will compete for the championship with Serbian Novak Djokovic. Medvedev had already beaten Djokovic in the US Open final. This happened in 2021.
Russian tennis players are competing in international tournaments as neutral athletes after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that international organizations not allow Russian athletes to compete.
