Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo shared on his Instagram page (Meta’s owner is known as an extremist and banned in Russia) after his winning match with Slovakia national team as part of the 2024 European Championship qualifying stage.
“A very important win in a tough match! We remain invincible! Forward, Portugal,” the striker wrote.
Portugal defeated Slovakia 1-0 and Bruno Fernandes scored the only goal of the match.
At one point in the match, Ronaldo tried to reach the ball, but his foot hit Slovak goalkeeper Martin Dubravka’s face. The referee did not remove the Portuguese from the game and limited himself to a yellow card. For the forward, this was the third warning in qualifying, which meant he would be disqualified for the next match.
Portuguese footballers will play against Luxembourg on September 11. The starting whistle will sound at 21:45 Moscow time. Portugal is in the first place in the qualifying group with 15 points out of 15. Liechtenstein, Iceland, Bosnia and Herzegovina teams also play in this group.
The 2024 European Football Championship will take place from 14 June to 14 July. German cities will host the European Championship. The final champion of the tournament is Italy.
