Real Madrid player Jude Bellingham is currently competing with Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde for the coveted Golden Boy award and was left behind in the vote count until Tuesday, when Taylor Swift fans launched a social media campaign against Balde.
Taylor Swift’s (dubbed ‘Swifties’) fans went viral with an old tweet that quoted the Barcelona player saying, “Do I like Taylor Swift? No, I don’t like her music.” The Swifties were not happy with Balde’s statement and decided to vote for Bellingham for the Golden Boy of 2023. As of midnight on Wednesday, the English midfielder’s vote had risen from 30 percent to 89 percent, according to ‘Tribune’.
Bellingham is off to a dream start at Real Madrid, having already scored five goals in four La Liga appearances.
Bellingham will play for England when the Three Lions take on Ukraine in the Euro 2024 qualifier on September 9. A day earlier, Balde was able to play for Spain against Georgia.
