On August 22, Kostomarov, together with his wife Oksana Domnina, participated in the ice show “Love Letters” by Ilya Averbukh in Sochi.
In early January 2022, Roman Kostomarov was hospitalized after New Year’s performances at an outdoor show. The condition of the person, who was reported to be in the intensive care unit due to pneumonia and was subjected to artificial lung ventilation, was considered to be extremely serious.
The athlete was then transported to a hospital in Kommunarka, resuscitated and connected to an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machine. During the course of treatment, both Kostomarov’s feet and hands were amputated. On July 6, doctors discharged the skater from the hospital.
