Sheikh Jassim has won the bid to buy English football team Manchester United and aims to complete the £6bn takeover of the club by mid-October. It has been reported Sun.
According to the publication, a member of the Qatari royal family was ahead of British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who was ready to allow the current owners, the Glazer family, to own a stake in the club.
Rumor has it that the Glazers intended to retain their stake in Manchester United and continue to own their stake in the club, but businessmen have been warned this would cause a massive backlash from fans.
The Glazer family bought Manchester United for £800m in 2005. The owners have never been well liked by Manchester United fans, partly because they owe the club a lot of money. Debt servicing cost Red Devils more than £1 billion.
