American tennis player Sloane Stevens advanced to the second round of the WTA-250 series tournament held in Cleveland, USA, by defeating her compatriot Lauren Davis at the beginning of the tournament.

The match lasted 1 hour 59 minutes and ended with a score of 1:6, 6:3.6:1.

In the second round, Stevens will play against 16-year-old Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva, who defeated German athlete Tamara Korpach in the first round of the tournament with the scores of 6:0, 3:6, 7:5.

Thanks to her successful performance at Wimbledon 2023, the Russian woman entered the Top 100 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings for the first time. It is ranked 62nd. In April, at a competition in Madrid, she became the youngest tennis player to reach the fourth round of WTA-1000 tournaments since their reform in 2009.

The tournament in Cleveland will be held August 20-28.

Andreeva was supposed to play with American tennis player Venus Williams in the first round of the tournament, but she decided to withdraw from the tournament due to a knee injury that plagued her. This became known on August 21.

The Ukrainian tennis player had previously explained why he wanted to punish the Russian woman.
