The Swedish and Australian women’s teams wanted to end their participation in the 2023 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Australia and New Zealand, as best as possible. After losing in the semi-finals, they now had a chance to keep the medal by playing the game for third place in the championship.

It’s the game no one wants to play because it means losing the semi-final bet. But it was time to play it and both Swedish and Australian (local) wanted to win it. Sweden had just lost 2-1 to Spain in a thrilling final on 15 August, while Australia had failed against the current European champions: England had beaten them 1-3.
The game was 2-0 in Sweden’s favor at Suncorp Stadium, with Rolfo putting his team ahead with a penalty kick and Asllani setting the game in the second half for the Europeans, who took the bronze medal.
