Zoran Lakovic, Director of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) letter The head of the Football Federation of Ukraine (UAF) expressed concern about the chosen restraining measure against Andriy Pavelko.
“We note with great concern the circumstances that led to the transfer of the case from Kiev to the court in Lviv and the change of Mr. Pavelko’s restraining order to detention. Meanwhile, we have been informed that an appeal has been lodged with the Lviv Court of Appeal against the decision and that the hearing is scheduled for July 7, 2023 after initially scheduled for June 30, 2023.”
In February, Pavelko was suspended from his job by the decision of the Pechersky District Court of Kiev.
On February 16, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) conducted searches in the UAF office. Recall that at the end of November 2022, the head of the federation was arrested for embezzlement of funds used to organize the production of artificial turf for football fields. The UAF bailed him out for $260,000.
Pavelko has been a member of the UEFA Executive Committee since 2019. In April, he was re-elected to the post despite his involvement in a corruption case.
