Electronics developer Yadro is looking to launch smartphones under its own Kvadra brand. In this respect informs publication “Kommersant” with reference to sources.

Production of smartphones could start at the factory in Dubna by the end of 2024. Kommersant writes that Yadro will not follow the path of SKD – the seller plans to make, among other things, devices using Russian printed circuit boards. The characteristics of the developed smartphones were not disclosed – it is only known that Yadro expects to use special processors based on the RISC-V architecture in them in the future.

Experts Kommersant interviewed believe that Yadro has the technical skills to implement the above plan. But as they noted, it will be extremely difficult to use Russian components in the manufacture of smartphones. At least because Russia has not yet started the production of processors, screens, cables, cameras and even batteries.

“It is now possible to establish the production of our own safes, albeit from metal, not from polycarbonate, which is widely used in the industry,” said Kommersant’s interlocutor.

Experts also noted that in any scenario of their production, the final cost of Russian smartphones will exceed the prices of their Chinese counterparts.

The smartphone isn’t Yadro’s first potentially mass-produced consumer product. The company presented a working prototype of the Kvadra_T tablet the day before. The device will go on sale in the fall of 2023.

Formerly Honor introduced a new smartphone is cheaper than 20 thousand rubles.
