In an interview with Jake Paul, recent UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling criticized Russian Petr Yan for his fights with mobile opponents.
“The UFC saw him as the goose to lay the golden egg for them. But I know it’s not as good as it seems. I’ve only seen Yang do well in duels with opponents standing still in front of him. He’s in no hurry, he waits, he lets you hit it, and then it pops up and smashes them into pieces on the shelf. And if the guy knows how to fight, then that’s a different story,” Sterling said.
The fight between the Russian and the American took place in Jacksonville in April last year. Sterling won by split decision and took the smallweight championship belt. This fight was vengeful in nature. At the previous meeting, the Russian fighter unequivocally “granted” the victory to the American, having been disqualified after a forbidden knee strike.
