Criminal lawyer Maxim Kalinov, in an interview with socialbites.ca correspondent, told what punishment Russian football player Shamil Gasanov threatened. Detained by traffic police with 0.54 grams of mephedrone. A criminal case was brought against him under part 1 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code – “Illegal possession or acquisition of narcotic substances”.

“The situation with Gasanov is not serious in principle. 0.54 grams of mephedrone (colloquially referred to as “mef”) is not a large amount,” Kalinov’s lawyer said, “I am sure that this criminal case will not have any consequences for the football player.

The penalty under this article is imprisonment for up to three years. But even in the worst case, he will only receive a suspended sentence.

If a person admits his guilt and repent of his action, the case is sent to the court in a special order. Subsequently, the court has the right to appoint Gasanov a measure of criminal law in the form of a judicial fine.

There is a big difference between a “penalty measure” and a “fine”. In the first case, the case in court is dismissed. They usually impose a fine of 20 thousand – and the person is considered not convicted.

Kalinov also expressed confidence that Gasanov will be able to find a highly qualified lawyer who will advise him on tactics of confession and repentance.

“The player has nothing to worry about. He is under house arrest, but there will be no serious legal consequences for the football player,” Kalinov summed up.
