Two-time Olympic hockey champion, three-time Stanley Cup winner Vyacheslav Fetisov called it a crime to show the world championship matches in Russia in the conditions of the ban on the participation of the country’s national team in international tournaments.

Recall that the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) previously decided to exclude Russian hockey players from participation in international tournaments, even with a neutral status, and in 2023 it took from Russia the right to host the home junior world championship.
In early July 2022, the IIHF disciplinary committee rejected the Russian Ice Hockey Federation’s (RHF) appeal for admission to international competitions.
The IIHF also announced that Russian hockey players will definitely not participate in the 2024 World Championship.
