Yevgeny Kafelnikov, the world’s first racket, the most title-winning tennis player in Russian history, talked about the future of 16-year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva at the French Open. He noted that it is too early to evaluate the athlete’s chances, but his recent achievements are evidence of the development of Russian tennis.
“It’s too early to judge the future. But the fact that the girl qualified and will play with leading tennis players shows that Russian tennis has not stopped, of course. Our girls have always stood out with their talents, achieved great success at a young age. Naturally, we are very happy, we will watch their matches, cheer up, worry and we will definitely watch, ”Caffelnikov told socialbites.ca.
Currently ranked 143rd in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), Andreeva is the youngest tennis player since Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo, who managed to enter the main draw of Roland Garros in 1995. She defeated Maria-Camila Osorio-Serrano from Colombia with a score of 7:6 (10:8), 6:4 in the qualifying final.
