Russia’s Irina Khromacheva and Ukraine’s Valeria Strakhova reached the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 double tennis tournament held in Rabat, Morocco.
Athletes defeated Georgian Natela Dzalamidze and Egyptian Mayar Sherif with the scores of 7:5, 5:7, 10:5 in the first round. The match lasted 1 hour and 48 minutes.
The Russian-Ukrainian duo will play Japanese Makoto Ninomiya and Romanian Monica Niculescu in the quarterfinals. The prize fund of the competition is approximately 260 thousand dollars.
Strakhova, 27, is ranked 135th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) doubles and 303rd in singles. Born in Kerch (Crimea), currently lives in Donetsk. The Ukrainian flag hangs on the athlete’s profile on the WTA website and is also listed on the website of the Ukrainian Tennis Federation.
In January, Valeria Strakhova together with Russian Amina Anshba won the International Tennis Federation (ITF) category tournament in doubles held in Buenos Aires.
Russian tennis player Veronika Kudermetova rose 11th in the WTA rankings.
