Finally after six months without a team Efrain ‘Spark’ Velarde He decided retire from professional football. The Mexican defender confirmed that he will retire after 19 years in Mexico’s first division.

“With courage and with a broken heart I made the most difficult decision of my life: to end my career as a professional football player. Infinite gratitude to the teams that allowed me to wear their shirts,” Velarde said via a video he shared on their social networks.

The 37-year-old left back made his debut with the cougars in the Clausura 2004 tournament, in a match where he scored a goal against Monterrey in Ciudad Universitaria. In ten years with cats, it was league champion four times, in addition to also lifting the Champion of Champions trophy.

Efrain Velarde also in clubs such as Striped, Leon, Toluca, Morelia And Mazatlan, until he returned to UNAM in 2021 to play a year and a half with the team that debuted him, ending his career. With the Mexican national team he participated in a Gold Cup and a Copa América.
