American mixed martial arts fighter, former contender for the UFC heavyweight title, Colby Covington, has announced a possible move to the lightweight division to tackle Russian Islam Makhachev.

“I think the fight with Makhachev is a real opportunity. We had already discussed this possibility backstage, it was about whether I could make the necessary weight. I’m not the biggest weight, I don’t ride that much, if I eat about 7-9 kilos and then everything.

Of course, Makhachev wants to sit in his own weight category, where his father Khabib reigns. “I will stop his fight and beat him until he gives up,” Covington said. MMA Fighting.

On October 22, Makhachev faced Brazil’s Charles Oliveira in the lightweight title fight at the UFC-280 tournament in Abu Dhabi. The Russian fighter won the second round with a suffocating grip.

On February 12, Makhachev defeated Volkanovski by unanimous decision after five rounds at UFC 284 in Perth, Australia. This victory for the Russian took the 24th place in his professional career with a loss.

It was previously reported that Usman Nurmagomedov recognized his opponent in Bellator.
