Striker and Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin became the best Russian sniper of the regular season of the National Hockey League (NHL) 2022/23 season.
The 37-year-old striker scored 42 goals. In total, he scored 75 (42+33) points in 73 games of the season.
Second place went to Minnesota Wild’s Kirill Kaprizov with 40 goals in 67 games. Third place is Vancouver Canucks forward Andrei Kuzmenko. He has 39 goals in 81 games.
In the overall standings for the sniper race, Alexander Ovechkin finished ninth, sharing with Nathan McKinnon (Colorado Avalanche), Carter Verhege (Florida Panthers) and Mark Scheifli (Winnipeg Jets).

Mikhail Ovechkin passed away on February 15, at the age of 72, after a serious illness. Alexander Ovechkin flew to Russia from the United States on February 14, when he learned that his father’s condition was deteriorating. Mikhail Ovechkin was buried at the Dolgoprudnensky cemetery.
