Sports doctor Alexander Yablunovsky talked about how age affected the illness of figure skater Roman Kostomarov, who was urgently hospitalized for pneumonia on January 10, after which he suffered from sepsis, gangrene and amputation. The words of an expert lead “KP Sports”.
“Age 46 is a critical age for severe stress,” the doctor said. “Patients come to our clinic who feel well but have health problems when they reach the age of 50-55.”
The doctor explained that at this age people often begin to suffer from metabolic syndrome: they have high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Yablunovsky believes that athletes who are in good physical shape also suffer from this syndrome, but neglect the prevention of diseases.
“They do not pay attention, trying to recover on their own – for example, winter swimming, like Kostomarov. But if the internal problem is already good, compensation is useless. Then there is the breakdown of immunity, ”explained the expert.
